Types of Arena Sand

Particle Size & Gradation: The distribution of particle sizes (fine, medium, coarse) affects compaction, drainage, and the overall feel of the surface.

.

Particle Sizing

  • Medium Sand: Offers a balance of firmness and cushion
  • Fine Sand: Promotes a firmer surface for precise movements
  • Coarse Sand: Provides more cushion and is ideal for disciplines requiring sharp turns.

Grain Shape: In addition to particle size, the grade shape offers

  • Angular Sand: Sharp edges interlock, providing excellent stability and traction. This is often preferred for performance arenas and cutting disciplines.
  • Sub-Angular Sand: Offers a good balance of stability and cushioning.
  • Rounded Sand: Provides more cushion but can be less stable on its own.

.

Our Arena Sand is a medium/coarse grade sand with a balanced mixture of angular, sub angular and round particles offering a balance of firmness and cushion for various equestrian disciplines.

Estimating Arena Sand Requirements

Depending on your discipline and drainage requirements 2″ – 4″ of top coat is generally recommended for most applications. For 2″ depth estimate 100-120 square feet for each 1 ton of arena sand. Please contact us for volume estimates.
